Bio

Marzio Scholten (born on June 17th 1982 in Granollers, Spain) is one of the most talented and promising jazz guitarists and composers of The Netherlands. In 2006 he graduated cum laude at the prestigious Conservatory of Amsterdam (where Marzio has studied with Jesse van Ruller, Martijn van Iterson and Maarten van der Grinten and followed workshops by a.o. Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Pat Martino, John Clayton, Chris Potter, Bill Stewart, Bobby McFerrin, Richard Bona and Mike Stern).

‘Motherland’, his debut as a leader, was released in June of 2008 and has been receiving critical acclaim worldwide. With this cd Marzio has proven to already be one of the leading jazz guitarists in The Netherlands.

Besides leading his own Marzio Scholten Quartet, with which he is touring internationally, he has worked with various artists (live and in the studio).

Marzio has played on many stages and festivals in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, mainly with his Marzio Scholten Quartet. Some of the more famous venues and festivals where he has played are Bimhuis, Vredenburg, Utrecht Jazz Fest, The Hague Jazz, Jazz in Duketown, East of Eastern Festival, Amersfoort Jazz Festival and SJU Jazzpodium.
